Kansans defeated a constitutional amendment that would have enabled abortion restrictions, and several Trump-backed candidates won G.O.P. nominations in Arizona and Michigan. Some race calls were still coming in on Wednesday.
It was supposed to be a close win for the pro-life movement. Polls showed a constitutional amendment overturning a 2019 state Supreme Court decision that legalized a specific abortion procedure winning 47%-43%.
“We have seen a lot of momentum in the last 24 hours in our fight to restore Roe. Americans in Kansas turned out to challenge views that would move the country backwards,” said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
