Singapore: Sheng Siong to reward staff with up to 16 months’ bonus after ‘tremendous’ performance in 2020
After a bumper year, Sheng Siong's employees will receive bonuses of up to 16 months, inclusive of the annual wage supplement (AWS), an internal memo shows. In a copy of the memo seen by TODAY, eligible staff members are entitled to 20% of the company’s profits before tax as variable bonus. Some of the amount, as well as the monthly bonus, has already been distributed from September to December last year. The remaining payout will be reflected in employees’ payslips next month and distributed in early March this year. TODAY has verified the authenticity of the memo, which was dated Jan 21, 2021. When approached, Sheng Siong declined to comment.

The current head of high street chemists chain Etos is moving over to the Hema group as chief executive, the company confirmed on Tuesday.
Saskia Egas Reparaz will take over from Tjeerd Jegen at a date yet to be decided, the company said. Egas Reparaz, the first female CEO in Hema’s history, makes the move after a 20 year career with the Ahold group.
The changes at the top come as Hema’s new owners, investment house Parcom and the Jumbo family Van Eerd, begin to make their presence felt. In particular, they are known to want Hema to focus on expanding into the rest of the Benelux countries and France, the Financieele Dagblad reported.

Take over of Hema by Jumbo and Parcom is finalised in 50:50 deal

The takeover of Hema by the owners of the Jumbo supermarket group and Dutch investment firm Parcom has been finalised, the Dutch high street stable confirmed on Thursday.
The 50:50 Mississippi Ventures and Parcom joint venture includes the involvement of the big three Dutch banks ABN AMRO, ING and Rabobank who agreed additional financing and a credit facility.
The agreement, due to be finalised in February 2021, gives Hema a ‘healthy financial situation with a significantly decreased level of debt and ample room to invest in our future development,’ chief executive Tjeerd Jegen said in a statement.

The takeover of Hema is complete. The consortium of Parcom and Mississippi Ventures has arranged an acquisition financing of 400 million euro (including bank loans) and a new revolving credit facility of 80 million euro. This means that all bonds, worth some 300 million euro, will be redeemed and that all Hema shares will be held by the consortium, in a 50/50 partnership, upon completion of the deal. The deal will reduce the annual interest burden of the retail chain from more than 50 million euro before restructuring to less than 10 million.

"Today’s announcement is a major milestone for Hema, as the bank financing was a crucial condition for the successful conclusion of the agreement on the acquisition. When we finalize the transaction early 2021, we will not only have a healthy financial situation with a significantly decreased debt level and ample room to invest in our future development, but we will also have very supportive new long term owners providing Hema with a stable operating platform going forward.," said CEO Tjeerd Jegen in a press release.
