An ogre sings outdoors in ‘Shrek’
“Shrek, the Musical,” the stage version of the hit animated film, is usually produced with a cast of roughly 30 playing everyone from the green ogre named Shrek to dozens of fairy tale characters. All of them will be on hand, but in a different way in a new outdoor production presented by the Dingbat Theatre Project. All the actors play multiple characters and manipulate a variety of puppets. It is staged by founder Luke Manual McFatrich (he also plays Dragon) and is choreographed by Brian Finnerty (who also plays Lord Farquaad). Cory Woomert plays Shrek, Alyssa Goudy is Princess Fiona and Derric Gobourne Jr. is Donkey. The cast also includes Noelia Altamirano, Amanda Heisey and Jamie Molina. Performances are outdoors at the Bazaar on Apricot and Lime, 821 Apricot Ave., Sarasota, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and May 13-15. Tickets are $25 or $50 for blanket seating for up to four people. For more information:

Alternative Energy Hailed as a Megatrend, Disrupting World Order
In the United States, the landscape is collecting a kind of 21
st-century raiment. Wind farms, solar farms, and just stray windmills and solar panels on roofs are signaling something big and different.
When they were making “Tom Jones” in 1963, the very funny film based on the Henry Fielding classic, the big problem was finding English villages which dated from the 18
th century and still looked it. The filmmakers found plenty of appropriate villages, but all the skylines were despoiled with television aerials. No filmmaker today can avoid windmills and solar panels, and computer graphics will have to come to the rescue for period dramas.

Marcel Stellman: Tributes flood in after Countdown creator dies, aged 96
Abbianca Makoni
Carol Vorderman and Rachel Riley were among stars to pen an emotional tribute to Countdown creator Marcel Stellman who has died, aged 96.
Belgian-born Stellman was also a record producer and lyricist who wrote songs for stars including Cilla Black, Petula Clark, Charles Aznavour, The Shadows and Tony Bennett.
A statement from his family said: “The death has been announced on May 2 of Marcel Stellman, 96, former record executive with Decca Records, a prolific song lyricist whose hits included Tulips From Amsterdam and the man who brought the Countdown TV game show to Great Britain, the first programme to be broadcast on Channel 4, where it has been aired continuously since 1982.”

Marcel Stellman the Decca exec and songwriter who brought Countdown to TV screens dies

at 9:30AM
Marcel Stellman the record exec, songwriter and man who brought TV quiz Countdown to the UK has died.
He passed away on Saturday (May 2), aged 96.
A long-standing producer and international manager at Decca, Stellman worked with the likes of Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck, Vera Lynn, Max Bygraves, The Moody Blues and The Rolling Stones.
He was also responsible for the lyrics of a series of hits including Tulips From Amsterdam, Johnny (Is The Boy For Me) and Un Garc'on des I'les.
Having watched French TV's Des Chiffres Et Des Lettres, Stellman acquired the rights to the letters and numbers shows, and rechristened it Countdown. It made its UK debut as the first programme to be broadcast on the new Channel 4 in 1982. It has remained on the station ever since.

The Week in Light & Sound

The Week in Light & Sound
Tuesday, 4 May 2021
On Trial - A pilot concert in Liverpool on Sunday saw 5,000 people legally crammed into a small space for the first time since the start of the pandemic. The mini-festival, headlined by Blossoms, in Liverpool's Sefton Park was one of the government's official trial events to research how large gatherings can safely take place again.
All ticket holders had to take a supervised lateral flow test at one of four testing centres in the city the day before and were only allowed in if the test was negative. They were also strongly encouraged to take more sensitive PCR tests on the day of the show and to do so again five days later, on Friday. That will be crucial to working out whether there was any spread of the virus. It's all with the aim of working out how summer music festivals can go ahead after 21 June, when stage four of the government reopening roadmap will, in theory, see the end of restrictions on social contact.

Farmer to finish lambs on herbal leys after seeing benefits
4 May 2021 |
The farm will use multi species leys and rotational grazing to boost feed efficiency and cut inputs
The rooting depths of clovers and herbal leys will help one Welsh beef and sheep farm reduce its nutrient run-off.
Tom Jones, who farms near Colwyn Bay, is aiming to use multi species leys and rotational grazing to improve feed efficiency and reduce inputs.
A project by Welsh government-funded Farming Connect on grazing systems on other Welsh farms made him aware of the wider benefits of herbal leys.
Not only can they increase daily liveweight gains and cut fertiliser use, but they can improve soil structure and decrease nutrient run-off due to their different rooting depths.

GoLocalProv | North Prov Police Union Commends Officers for Using "Less-Lethal Force" in Homicide Suspect Arrest

Tuesday, May 04, 2021

The North Providence Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) commended officers involved in the arrest of a homicide suspect for "displaying exemplary judgement and deploying a less lethal use of force while effecting a dangerous arrest over the weekend."
Officers were called to the Cumberland Farms on Smith Street around 4:00 Saturday afternoon for a report of a fight. The victim, 60-year-old Brian Cervini, was found suffering from multiple stab wounds. He later died at the hospital.
The suspect, 27-year-old Christopher Cabajal, fled the scene. Witnesses helped direct officers to Cabajal's whereabouts at Rhode Island Billiard Bar and Bistro. Upon arriving, officers attempted to handcuff Cabajal, who violently resisted arrest. After multiple attempts to de-escalate the situation with verbal commands, officers were forced to deploy a taser on Cabajal. He was then taken into custody.

Stars of Doctor Who and The Omen started out at Bradford Playhouse | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

HALF-WAY up a street in Little Germany stands a theatre that changed the lives of several Bradford youngsters.
It was where a teenage Duncan Preston decided to become an actor, rather than work for his dad’s Eccleshill haulage business. It was where 11-year-old Mary Tamm joined Saturday drama classes, later leaving Bradford for RADA. She went on to win the hearts of Doctor Who fans as Romana, assistant to Tom Baker.
Other young actors on the Playhouse stage included Bernard Hepton, acclaimed actor and theatre director and star of Secret Army and Smiley’s People; Peter Firth, Emmy-winning star of TV’s Spooks and Victoria; Billie Whitelaw, whose films included The Omen and The Krays; ‘Allo ‘Allo star Gorden Kaye; director and producer Tony Richardson, whose films include A Taste of Honey and Oscar-winning Tom Jones; Edward Petherbridge, who worked with Laurence Olivier and the RSC; George Layton, star of Doctor in the House; and former Coronation Street and dinnerladies actress Thelma Barlow.

A Washington Post correction adds to confusion over Rudy Giuliani and the FBI

When you have to publish a correction, be forthcoming about it. The Washington Post failed to do that over the weekend, thus compounding the harm it had done to Donald Trump adviser Rudy Giuliani. Here is the Post’s correction, published on Saturday:
An earlier version of this story, published Thursday, incorrectly reported that One America News was warned by the FBI that it was the target of a Russian influence operation. That version also said the FBI had provided a similar warning to Rudolph W. Giuliani, which he has since disputed. This version has been corrected to remove assertions that OAN and Giuliani received the warnings.
