It is heartening to see the céad míle fáilte out in force in Kerry and that the Kingdom has the highest number of documented Ukrainian refugees and international protection applicants in the country, at just over 7,000 people (‘Breakdown of refugee figures shows west is taking in more than its fair share’ – Irish Independent, May 6).

Sir — One week on from a well-intentioned ESRI study declaring that 67.3pc of people in the Republic live in homes that are too big for their needs, homeowners of a certain vintage could be forgiven for an unmerited feeling of being partially to blame for the housing crisis.
The Laramie Project, a play about the torture and murder of Matthew Shepard in Wyoming, in 1998, has been seared on my mind since I saw it at the Civic Theatre in Tallaght some years ago.
