Officer is recovering after he was assault the near campus. Its believed to be gang related. Reporter two officers were on another call here at the hammer theater when they heard some sort of a disturbance. They went to investigate and one of the officers was attacked, caught off guard, hit multiple times in the face. Cameras were rolling shortly after the attack on the police officer. A spokesperson for the school who didnt want to be on camera said three male suspects caused a disturbance with a group of students walking by. It sounds like there were conversations going on between the group. Again our officers stepped in and the students stepped back. At one point, we even spotted an animal running through the blackened hillside, trying to escape the flames. The fire burned for more than an hour and a half. White smoke filling the sky. Red retar dant can be seen on the hillside there. No word on how it all got started. A live look now, this is chopper 5 overhead. The fire was contained in the last half hour. The flames completely knocked down. But a lot of scarred territory down there. Still some hot spots. A little bit of smoke pouring from some of the charred grass. Good afternoon everyone, im maria medina. A brush fire is burning on the side of highway 880 in hayward. The charred brush backed top a sound wall protecting a neighborhood on the other side. Flakes broke out an awe hog for flames broke out an hour ago. For a while you can see the flames climbing up to the top of the trees. Only two lanes are open on the southbound side of the freeway. Its causing a major traffic backup. You can see cars bumper to bumper for miles as they funnel down to two lanes and taking a live look from chopper 5, for the most part firefighters have knocked down the flames and spraying down the charred brush.
