UPMC unveils special response vehicle | News, Sports, Jobs

WILLIAMSPORT– On Tuesday, Feb. 23, representatives from UPMC, Susquehanna Regional EMS, and the PPL Foundation unveiled UPMC’s Special Response Vehicle, a new resource for emergency response in northcentral Pennsylvania.
“Today has been a long time coming for our region,” said Jim Slotterback, manager, Emergency Preparedness, UPMC in the Susquehanna Region. “Within the last decade we’ve seen a significant increase in demand for special resources like this vehicle across the state and locally. It not only addresses a vulnerability of mass transportation and care in emergency situations, but it also supports community health, education, and outreach. ....

PPL building budding readers in Lock Haven | News, Sports, Jobs

PPL’s Cover to Cover program recently paid a visit to the Lock Haven YMCA Susquehanna Avenue Childcare site with free books for Pre-K students. Cover to Cover started in 2016 to provide elementary school students with books to help them maintain their reading skills over the summer. The COVID-19 pandemic shifted book distribution to Pre-K facilities this year. WVIA public television assisted remotely with students learning about various animal habitats, completing an activity, and receiving a visit from Clifford the Big Red Dog, part of the WVIA programming lineup. To date, the PPL Cover to Cover program has reached about 8,500 students and distributed 33,000 books in over 25 schools in its service area in central and eastern Pennsylvania. PPL grant supports Penn College dual enrollment program | News, Sports, Jobs

WILLIAMSPORT-PPL Electric Utilities is donating $8,000 through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program to Pennsylvania College of Technology in support of Penn College NOW, a dual enrollment program.
The Penn College Foundation is approved as an Educational Improvement Organization under the EITC program administered by the state Department of Community & Economic Development.
PPL has been a Penn College EITC partner since 2012 and has provided financial support to the college or its predecessor institution, Williamsport Area Community College, since 1985.
Penn College NOW enables academically qualified high school and career technology center students to take tuition-free courses for college credit. Last year, 1,700 students earned more than 6,800 credits valued at more than $3.8 million through Penn College NOW. ....
