And when we need somebody who knows something about the business i go and find the guy who actually invented or designed that transponder and take him with me to court. so these folks in malaysia should have gone to the didn t have that going? that brings me to the issue a little later in the show. who is on first. who is doing what. what is the first thing they do in the event of loss of communication? like my friend in air traffic control says. we trying to back to the last frequency we were given try to make contact with them. if not we have other ways to go on emergency frequency which we monitor all of the time, we could squawk a different coke in ....

Made a right turn over the strait before coming down south. why would somebody do that? if you could make the right turn in theory, you could have made it back to a malaysian airport. in theory, you could have communicated with air traffic controllers, transponder was off, the acar s data was no longer transmitting. there was a lot here to suggest this was intentional. all right. tom costello, thank you very much for that. let s bring in a physical oceanographer at air and space research. she s been analyzing surface currents to determine where the debris might be now. kathleen, we have a break in the case. a little daylight, it seems like, but does this actually put us any closer to where we might be need to be to actually find the plane? i think it s a great break in the case. because if you know more information, any information because right now, we ve been going on hypotheses and trying to guess where things went. but if you can know where to start from, at least roughly a ....

Dump. that was also the time unknown to me that the aircraft began experiencing a series of critical systems failures. the plane begins to lose altitude. within a minute, they had lost several critical systems. they lost radio contact and very soon after that, we lost the transponder. inside the cockpit, a nightmare scenario is unfolding. fire has breached the ceiling, dripping molten aluminum on to the flight deck. they lose control of the plane and plunge into the ocean at 345 miles an hour. the impact is enormous. there are no survivors. the plane shatters and only small traces remain floating on the surface. the rest disappears into the atlantic. it is clearly now not a rescue mission, but a recovery mission. puzzled by the tragedy, investigators are eager to retrieve the wreckage. we knew if we found the source of that in-flight fire ....

In your house with circuit breakers. same type of an idea. but the question i have is, again it has been a while and i don t have the manuals in front of me. does the number one radio, the captain s radio, come off the emergency bus that would be powered at least by the battery in case of failure of the other buses? is it separated that way? my understanding is it is connected to the primary bus. i m not sure if you re referring to the hot battery bus or the emergency power bus. i don t think it is. i think it is just the bottles in case you re on the ground. basic things you need on the ground in case of emergency. the trans ponder is on that but i don t believe the captain s radio is. no. thank you guys. ....

We saw martin savidge navigating and going around and doing everything trying to get down, frantically trying to reduce altitude. it is an aggressive maneuver. what we saw on the radar returns was two-minute turn and remaining on heading for over an hour. go ahead. we need to try to zero in on the things that we can defend. and once you get the transponder an the acars turned off, now the airplane is free, except for that skin paint that the military radar can look at and the military radar that we have been getting reports on just are not that great. i m really concerned about the pilots right now. yeah. you agree with that, right? it is not that you agree it is not that great? i think jim sort of absolutely is right. i think the air defense radars that we re looking at have a better capability, but my question is if the military is saying it descended to 12,000 feet, that, to me, is something very unusual. why didn t they interrogate? ....
