The Dutch, 24 year old Antonia Brico was a child when she and her parents immigrated to the United States. She dreams of becoming a conductor, but nobody takes her ambition seriously. Because she has little to lose, she returns to her motherland, where she begs the famous conductor Mengelberg to teach her conducting lessons. After a two year study at the State Academy of Music she becomes the first woman to conduct the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Vendors at Koko Marina Center’s monthly craft fair will be offering deals of up to 90% off, along with a scavenger hunt with more than a thousand dollars’ worth of prizes. Expect fresh goodies from Sun Farm Hawai‘i, baby items, jewelry and more from dozens of tents and tables spaced out around the center. Past vendors have included Strawai‘i (reusable bamboo straws), Huff ‘n Puff Hawai‘i (okoshi snacks), Tasty Jerky Hawai‘i, Podagee Horseshoe and Hilo Soap Co. The combination sidewalk sale/farmers market will continue on the third Saturday of each month throughout 2021.
