Sacramento School Responds To Teacher's Racist Gestures

By Sasha Margulies, iHeart Media

Administrators of a North Sacramento school are condemning the "derogatory" and "racist" gestures a Grant Union High School teacher made during a live Zoom class.
A student in Spanish teacher Nicole Burkett's class recently filmed her pulling her eye lids upward saying quote, "If your eyes go up, you're Chinese. If they go down, they're Japanese. If they're just straight, you don't know." The Twin Rivers Unified school board vows that hate-related incidents will not be tolerated and an investigation into the matter is being taken seriously.
Meanwhile, Sacramento police are investigating what appears to be another racist incident at an Asian-owned butcher shop in South Sacramento. Security footage shared by the owner of Mad Butcher Meat Company shows someone dumping a mutilated cat in front of his business.
