covid-19 positivity rate shoots up by 4 times in less than 3 weeks, breaches 8% mark for first time in 6 months
The City has registered 9,618 covid-19 cases on Tuesday, increasing the positivity rate — a key indicator of the on-the-ground spread of coronavirus — by four times in less than three weeks. At 8.59 per cent, this is the first time the positivity rate has breached the eight per cent mark in the last six months, although the all-time highest stands at 23.84 per cent in July last year. The positivity rate had steadily come down since October last year.
It fell to 2.19 per cent in November and 1.42 per cent in December to an all-time low in January (0.91 per cent) and February (0.94 per cent). The positivity rate was 2.31 per cent in March this year.

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], February 5 (ANI): The election for Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman will be held on February 9.
According to a bulletin issued by the Karnataka Legislative Council, Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala is "pleased to fix Tuesday, February 9, 2021, as the date for the election of Chairman seat under sub-rule (1) of rule 7 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Karnataka Legislative Council."
"At any time before 12.00 pm on February 8, any member may give notice in writing addressed to the Secretary at Room No: 156-C, First Floor, Vidhana Soudha, Bangalore, of a motion that another member be chosen as the Chairman and the notice shall be seconded by a third member and shall be accompanied by a statement by the member whose name is proposed in the notice that he is willing to serve as Chairman if elected," it said.
