A TOTAL of 1,075 health care workers from the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City have already been injected with CoronaVac, the vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) manufactured by Sinovac Biotech Ltd. of China, as of 11 a.m. Sunday, March 7, 2021.
In a post on its official Facebook page, the VSMMC said only 41 experienced mild adverse effects after vaccination and none suffered serious adverse effects.
The number of VSMMC employees who have consented to be vaccinated has already reached 2,062.
Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, Department of Health (DOH) 7 spokesperson, earlier said reactions after receiving the vaccine are normal as the body is given something “that it does not recognize as part of its own.”

NO LOCAL government officials will be inoculated with the Sinovac vaccine yet as all 7,200 doses in the first batch that arrived on March 2, 2021 are intended for healthcare workers, the Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH 7) clarified.
Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, DOH 7 spokesperson, issued the clarification Wednesday, March 3, after two Cebu City councilors said they were willing to be vaccinated to build trust in the vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Except for Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) deputy chief implementer for the Visayas Melquiades Feliciano, Loreche said all vaccinees at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) on Thursday, March 4, will be medical frontliners.

Duque: Healthcare systems in 'safe zone'

February 26, 2021
DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III on Wednesday night, February 24, 2021, said healthcare systems in all regions were still generally in the safe zone as only about half of the facilities designated for the pandemic were in use.
However, Duque said Baguio City was considered a high risk while Lapu-Lapu City (Cebu), Santiago City (Isabela), Makati City, and the provinces of Davao de Oro and Isabela were classified as moderate risk.
Among the regions, Central Visayas and Davao had the highest health care utilization rates (HCUR) of 48 percent and 47 percent, respectively.
The HCUR, which refers to the proportion of beds and ventilators being used by coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients, is the parameter used by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases in the escalation of risk classifications.

THERE is no word yet of when the vaccine for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) will arrive in Cebu City, or what type of vaccine it will be and how many vials will be allocated to the city.
These were the answers given by national Inter-Agency Task Force for Covid-19 implementer for the Visayas Melquiades Feliciano to questions of members of the City Council during one of its regular sessions.
Councilor Eugenio Gabuya Jr. asked what kind of vaccine the city could expect.
Feliciano said it might be Pfizer or Sinovac, but “right now we do not know what vaccine will be given to Cebu City.”

EOC: Reduce mandatory confinement to 10 days

February 04, 2021
THE Cebu City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) plans to reduce the number of days required for asymptomatic Covid-19 patients inside quarantine facilities.
From the 14-day mandatory stay in isolation centers, the EOC wants to limit the stay to only 10 days, provided the patient continues to have no symptoms of Covid-19 three days prior to his 10th day of confinement.
Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera, EOC deputy chief implementer, said this is seriously being studied by the EOC as it would greatly help in the turnaround of patients in the city’s isolation centers.
Garganera said the patients can continue to serve the remaining four days of quarantine at home.
