More than three decades ago, Jemery Palmer introduced a new concept to Greenville Public Schools that would end up flourishing beyond anyone’s imagination: Children’s Corner. What started as a “latchkey” innovative by Palmer introduced at the start of the 1991-1992 school year to help fill a void of childcare options in the community by offering before-and-after-school sessions — beginning with only 20 students at Walnut Hills Elementary School — has since grown into a prominent daycare program throughout the entire district with approximately 500 children enrolled and 35 staff members overseeing it.
The public will have plenty of opportunities in the coming weeks to learn more about the $43 million community recreation complex planned in Urbandale.
