WandaVision's Grief Line Divides Fans, Sparks Memes on Twitter

WandaVision is striking a chord with fans, but it’s not the kind of snappy Marvel reference you might expect.

In a scene set shortly after
Avengers: Age of Ultron, we see Vision comforting Wanda Maximoff in the wake of her brother’s death. “What is grief, if not love persevering?” Vision says gently. This might have sounded overly flowery and sentimental from another character, but it’s perfect for Vision’s sensitive personality and Paul Bettany’s acting skills.

This line encapsulates a central theme of the show: Wanda struggling to deal with her trauma by surrounding herself with a happy, domestic illusion. Her grief is overwhelming because she loved Pietro and Vision so strongly.

WandaVision 1x8 review: "Previously On"

Unlike every
WandaVision episode that came before, “Previously On,” the penultimate episode of the season, serves to tell the original story of Westview. The whole show has been shrouded in mystery, but this latest episode of
WandaVision is here to explain everything to the audience, as well as explore the root of Wanda’s grief and how it led to her actions. After Agatha Harkness was revealed to be a witch in the last episode, the show took a different turn by digging deeper into the motivations of Wanda.
But, before that, the series goes back to Agatha’s origins in 1693 Salem, Massachusetts. Agatha’s mother and the other witches are getting ready to execute her for treason. It all goes wrong, however, and all of the witches die through Agatha’s own magic during the execution.

As we approach the end of Marvel Studios and Disney+'s
WandaVisionseries, fans have begun to question if there will be a second season. The boss of Marvel Studios has weighed in amid the chatter, though he offered a relative non-answer on the issue.
During Wednesday's Disney+ presentation at the Television Critics Association press tour, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige was asked about the probability of
WandaVision receiving a second season.
"I've been at Marvel for too long to say a definite no or a definite yes to anything," Feige said to Collider.
