County invoicing $373K in recoupment for land taken out of CAUV due to solar development

A NEW PROJECT IN HIGHLAND COUNTY IS ON THE VERGE OF PROVIDING EMISSION-FREE AND RENEWABLE ENERGY TO THE CITY OF CINCINNATI. SHOVELS IN THE DIRT, MARKING THE START OF A BIG PROJECT HAPPENING ABOUT AN HOUR EAST OF DOWNTOWN CINCINNATI. >> WE ARE STARTING SOMETHING TODAY THAT IS TRULY REVOLUTIONARY. ALLISON: THE NEW MARKET SOLAR PROJECT AND HAS BEEN IN THE WORKS FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS. ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, THIS WILL BE THE LARGEST MUNICIPALLY LED SOLAR ARRAY IN THE UNITED STATES. >> WE NEED A BETTER SOLUTION THAT IS MAKING AMERICA ENERGY INDEPENDENT AND GIVING OHIOANS AND EVERYONE IN THE MIDWEST A CHANCE TO EARN A LIVING WA THAT’S AT MIDDLE CLASS OR ABOVE. ALLISON: THE CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION SITE SPANS ROUGHLY 890 ACRES IN CLAY AND WHITEOAK TOWNSHIPS IN HIGHLAND COUNTY. 310,000 SOLAR PANELS WILL BE INSTALLED, PROVIDING CLEAN AND RENEWABLE ENERGY TO CINCINNATI. FARMLAND TRANSFORMING TO SOLAR FARMS IS NOTHING NEW TO THE GREATER CINCINNATI AREA. IN 2018, DUKE ENERGY PUT A SOLAR FARM IN NORTHERN KENTUCKY. SO WHAT DOES THIS RECENT PROJECT MEAN FOR RESIDENTS OF THE QUEEN CITY? >> BASICALLY, WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN IS TYPICALLY OUR AGRIGATION PROGRAM HAS SAVED APPROXIMATELY 10% COMPARED TO THE LOCAL UTILITY RATE. THAT REPRESENTS ABOUT AN ANNUAL SAVINGS OF $3 MILLION FOR THE CITY AND THAT’S MONEY THAT STAYS IN PEOPLE’S POCKETS. The village of Greenfield may soon find itself sandwiched between two solar panel farms with the recent approval of the proposed 435-acre Fayette Solar facility.
The Fayette County Board of Zoning Appeals recently voted 3-2 in favor of allowing the new solar panel farm to be built on leased land across the Highland/Fayette County line north of Greenfield.
The local approval of Fayette Solar comes weeks after plans were announced to build the 120-megawatt Ross County Solar facility southeast of Greenfield across the Highland/Ross County line.

The local approval of Fayette Solar comes weeks after plans were announced to build the 120-megawatt Ross County Solar facility southeast of Greenfield across the Highland/Ross County line.
Ross County Solar would occupy approximately 1,400 acres between SR 41 and Rapid Forge Road.
