Covid-19 vaccines: stop the scaremongering and let Hong Kong get on with life

I would like to compliment the Hong Kong government for its handling of the pandemic. The reluctance of many in Hong Kong to be vaccinated is no fault of the government but more because of the scaremongering by the media.
I believe it would be timely for Hong Kong follow the example of Singapore, which has come to the realisation that Covid-19 is a flu-like virus which might not be eradicated for a very long time, if ever. Therefore, the sensible approach is to accept it and learn to live with it. That means getting back into a normal routine with citizens taking responsibility for their health, wearing masks in crowded areas, trying some social distancing where convenient to do so and accepting that vaccines are much safer than infections.

It is hard to tell whether this was a case of unthinking racism, deliberate racism or mere stupidity. But what is clear is that targeting foreign domestic helpers in the fight against Covid had nothing to do with science and a great deal to do with the aggressively political manner in which the Hong Kong government has chosen to fight the virus.
The decision to target helpers was justified by a very muddled Labour Secretary Law Chi-kwong, who described them as being a “high-risk group”. He pointed out that getting them tested and vaccinated was vital because they were often responsible for looking after the young and elderly.
