Hurricane Fiona was churning north on Monday evening after bringing torrential rain and powerful winds to the Dominican Republic and triggering a total power outage in neighbouring Puerto Rico, where at least two people died.
The country reported severe flooding and power outages after Hurricane Fiona struck as half of the provinces of the island remain on red alert.
National Guard troops have rescued more than 900 people, some from the roofs of their home in Puerto Rico. Hurricane Fiona made landfall in Dominican Republican on Monday.
