NEW DELHI: Major cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin and Ether gave up their gains on Thursday as environmental concerns rose due to cryptocurrency mining. Iran put a blanket ban on cryptocurrency mining for the next four months as widespread power outages stirred public dissatisfaction across the country.

Sensex gives up 50k mark at close
The benchmark Sensex hit the 50,000 milestone for the first time ever on Thursday but failed to hold on to the gains and closed 559 points lower from the day's highs on profit booking. The index closed 167 points lower at 49,625.
Nifty closed at 14,590.35, down 54 points. All sectoral indices closed in the red with banks and financials biggest laggards. Market breadth was negative with midcaps and small caps ending deep in the red.
Bajaj Finance, its twin Finserv and Bajaj Auto were the top gainers for most part of trade.

Sensex, Nifty Highlights on January 21: After hitting record highs in the morning trade, market indices turned volatile during the last hour and closed lower on Thursday, in line with mixed global equities. Earlier today, with Sensex rose above the psychological key level of 50,000 and Nifty above 14,700 for the first time. Reversing from gains, Sensex closed 167 points lower at 49,624 and Nifty fell by 54 points to end at 14,590. In early session today, Sensex and Nifty have hit fresh lifetime highs of 50,184 and 14,753, respectively. Companies set to announce their Q3 earnings are Asian Paints, Bajaj Auto, AAVAS Financiers, MCX India, SBI Cards and Payment Services, Bajaj Holdings & Investment, Bandhan Bank, Biocon, Cyient.

Nifty is trading in highly overbought zone, avoid fresh long: Sameet Chavan

Nifty started the previous week tad below 13,600 and consolidated in a narrow range for the initial couple of sessions. However, positive global market sentiments, later, provided an impetus to the ongoing rally and the index continued it uptrend for the rest of the week to clock new records and ended above 13,750 on Friday.
The bulls seem to be reluctant to give up and hence, we have seen intra-day dips getting bought into throughout the week. Nifty is trading near all-time high and although there's no limit on the upside, reciprocal retracements usually indicates where the markets could resist in such a trend. If we observe positional charts and take retracements of the previous corrections, then 127 per cent retracement of the previous correction from 12,430 to 7,511 comes around 13,770 and that is where Nifty is placed right now. On the other hand, the RSI-smoothened oscillator is trading at level above 95 on the daily chart which is a highly overbought zone.
