San Francisco s Board of Supervisors will decide on Tuesday whether to allow a Ferris wheel at Golden Gate Park s Music Concourse to stay for another year, instead of the four-year extension proposed by the city s Historic Preservation Commission.
The Board of Supervisors will consider the resolution after the supervisors Rules Committee voted unanimously on Monday to bring it to the full board for a vote.
Earlier this month, the San Francisco Historic Preservation Commission approved extending the stay of the 150-foot-tall SkyStar Observation Wheel through 2025, in order to reinvigorate the city s post-pandemic economy and help offset SkyStar s financial loss. ....

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – An independent contractor working on a gazebo in the backyard of a Murfreesboro home died after falling from a scaffold on Thursday, March 11th, according to police detectives.
56-Year old Jose Ortiz Hernandez of Antioch, was found unresponsive by his nephew who came to give him a ride home around 8:11 p.m.
The accident happened at a newly constructed home in the 1400 block Avellino Circle near Pitts Lane in Murfreesboro.  Hernandez was working on the gazebo alone.
When officers arrived, personnel with the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department were attempting to perform life-saving measures.  Hernandez was not able to be resuscitated and was later pronounced dead. ....

ANTIOCH, Tenn. (WTVF) — Crews have contained a house fire that happened in Antioch Saturday morning.
Initial reports of the fire came in just after 6 a.m. According to the Nashville Fire Department (NFD), crews arrived at the scene on the 5000 block of Oak Chase Drive to find heavy smoke and flames at the home.
After establishing a water source, responders attacked the blaze from inside the home.
As of this writing, the fire has been contained; however, crews are now looking for extension of the fire that had spread into the attic, as well as the eaves outside of the house. ....

Two East Bay school districts will each receive $20,000 grants to address education inequalities that have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, state Superintendent Tony Thurmond said Thursday.
The Antioch Unified School District will use its grant to create teams of educators that will visit the homes of students and families that are not showing high engagement and class attendance and provide them with support.
The other district receiving a grant, the West Contra Costa Unified School District, will use the funding to hire a full-time mentor through the federal government s Peacemaker program, which encourages students to manage conflicts through negotiation and mediation rather than violence. ....
