Former President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign aides played key roles orchestrating a rally protesting certification of President-elect Joe Biden‘s victory in the 2020 presidential election before hundreds of rioters breached the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Multiple individuals listed on the permit granted by the National Park Service worked for Trump’s presidential campaign, as first reported by the Associated Press over the weekend. That raises new questions about the Trump campaign’s lack of spending transparency and the unknown extent of the event’s ties to Trump aides. ....

Country is unraveling — and Trump is to blame

Our country is unraveling by the minute,” says a recent letter writer to The Daily Advance. He asks why the Michigan state police provided protection for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer when armed Trump supporters surrounded the governor’s mansion shouting threats of violence, and why St. Louis property owners Mark and Patricia McCloskey were arrested for brandishing weapons aimed against peaceful marchers.
The answer should be clear: the Trump supporters were threatening violence and the demonstrators in St. Louis were not armed; they were walking down a public street, and they were threatening no one. That’s a significant difference.
And that difference is the problem we now have with Trump cultists. They simply do not see or wish to recognize the fences they are crossing. Peaceful demonstrators are not the same as armed mobs. Pointing a gun at another person is a form of assault. Equating the two demonstrates clearly why we have so much division in our country righ ....

WASHINGTON President Donald Trump’s donors the vast majority of whom are working-class supporters and retirees contributing just a few dollars a month put $10.5 million into the erstwhile billionaire’s own personal businesses over the course of his presidency, a HuffPost analysis found.
Some $8.5 million came from the Trump campaign and related entities that Trump controls directly. Another $2 million came from other Republican candidates and committees.
Through a trust that he controls, Trump owns the hotels, golf courses and buildings that received the money, with every penny of profit flowing to him personally. ....
