COVID-19 distancing rules change but bus rules hinder some schools

He added that while smaller Herkimer County schools have had the capacity to bus students who wanted to attend school in person, under the old 6-foot rule, they lacked the classroom space to bring those students back.
Those schools benefit from the 6-foot/3-foot change in guidance, but Central Valley does not. Central Valley needs a guidance change that allows us to put more kids on buses for it to affect us,” he said.
The Little Falls City School District plans to bring its fourth- and fifth-graders back to five-days a week in-person learning starting Monday, April 26, according to School Superintendent Keith Levatino. ....

Biden's 'Infrastructure' Plan: If You Build It, You Will Pay

‘You and I come by road or rail. Economists travel on infrastructure,” Margaret Thatcher once told an audience — pillorying economists’ love of jargon and recognizing the real value of infrastructure in allowing people to go about their daily business. President Biden’s infrastructure plan is bloated, wasteful, and indifferent to how people really travel. It could do with a good dose of Thatcherite logic. First, there’s the bloat. A Politico review of the bill’s $2.25 trillion spending plans found that $821 billion would count as infrastructure under generally accepted definitions and ....

Howey: Battle over governor's emergency authority at hand | Opinion

Govs. Harold Handley, Matt Welsh, Edgar Whitcomb, Doc Bowen, Robert Orr and Frank O’Bannon had all spent time in the dual “Cave of Winds” on the Statehouse third floor during a 40-year span.
But five out of the last six governors had arrived at power via other routes, whether it was Secretary of State Evan Bayh, Lt. Gov. Joe Kernan (a former mayor of South Bend), White House Budget Director Mitch Daniels, Congressman Mike Pence or Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb. As I look out over the current General Assembly roster, only a handful appear to have the résumé, and a feel for the people’s pulse needed for the job, as well as a penchant for leadership. ....
