OCEANSIDE, Calif. A father is on an important mission to bring justice to the death of his U.S. Marine Corp son and others during military training exercises.
On May, 9, 2019, 1st Lt. Conor McDowell, 24, was killed when the 80-ton Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) he was in hit a hidden ditch and rolled over during a training exercise at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. Six others were injured. ....

Tampons and pads shouldn’t be prohibited at bar exam, ABA House says

The right of bar examinees to bring tampons and pads with them was addressed in a measure overwhelmingly approved by the House of Delegates at the ABA Midyear Meeting on Monday.
Resolution 105 calls on the bar admission authority in each jurisdiction to permit test-takers to take menstrual products into the bar exam in opaque bags and access them without being supervised by exam proctors.
The resolution, which was primarily sponsored by the Law Student Division, also asks that authorities in each jurisdiction create and disseminate clear policies that outline the protocol for bringing menstrual products into the bar exam. ....

The first session of the 116th Congress started in 2019 with a politically divided government and the longest federal government shutdown in history. It ended with the impeachment of the president by the Democratic-led House of Representatives.
The second session started in 2020 with the Republican-led Senate acquittal of the president, followed quickly by the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. The rapidly spreading virus compelled Congress to close its doors to the public, transformed daily life throughout the nation and dominated much of the legislative agenda for the remainder of the year. The 116th Congress ended with a presidential election, concerns over the peaceful transition of power, and a rush to fund the government for the remainder of FY 2021 and provide additional coronavirus relief prior to adjournment. ....

Most of us cannot wait until the end of 2020, the year of a pandemic that has seen the deaths of more than 240,000 Americans; business closures and high unemployment; a national reckoning with racial injustice punctuated by protests; devastation caused by hurricanes and wildfires; and the most contentious presidential race of our lifetime. All this was complicated by a divisive U.S. Supreme Court nomination received in the Senate only 38 days before the presidential election and questions raised about the integrity of potential election results.
This past year, the second session of the 116th Congress was consumed with filling judicial vacancies, passing major economic relief bills, taking steps to avoid a government shutdown and undertaking the confirmation process for a Supreme Court vacancy. ....
