As of February 2021, enlistees will be asked to mark if they are vegetarian when they take their physical exams columns marked “vegetarian” in both English and Korean will be available on the exam form. The information will be then sent to the military unit the enlistees will serve so it can provide them with meatless meals. Customized menus “As soon as we identify the number of vegetarian and Muslim soldiers next year, we will develop customized menus,” a military source said. Main meals will include foods such as tofu, vegetables, salads, cereals, and vegetarian bibimbap. Currently, two soldiers in service have identified themselves as a vegetarian and a Muslim, respectively, and the military provides them with meatless meals. ....
Shares Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than one third (34 percent) of Brazilians are actively buying less meat, according to data compiled by market research firm GlobalData. The data also showed that 14 percent of Brazlians are purchasing more meat replacements. A similar trend is emerging in China, where GlobalData found that 22 percent of residents are purchasing less meat while 23 percent are buying more meat replacements. Globally, 25 percent of consumers are buying less meat and 17 percent are purchasing more meatless alternatives. The researchers’ study aimed to evaluate the potential impact of specific nutraceuticals in foods and medicinal plants for preventing or affecting the health outcomes of COVID-19. It used computer simulations and laboratory studies to look at how the Mpro protein an important player in the replication and transcription processes of the virus reacted to specific compounds in certain plant foods known for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. ....
Shares This week, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) published its 2020 to 2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which continue to promote the consumption of three servings of dairy products which the Physicians for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) classifies as a form of dietary racism. The 1,200-doctor member group points to a 2018 resolution passed by the American Medical Association that recognized that lactose intolerance is common among many Americans, especially Black Americans, Asian Americans, and Native Americans. Furthermore, PCRM cites a number of studies that link the consumption of dairy at the level recommended by the Dietary Guidelines to increased breast cancer risk by up to 80 percent and risk of death from prostate cancer by 141 percent.
