Founded over 45 years ago, Hospice by the Bay is the oldest nonprofit hospice in California, and has been a trusted provider of hospice care and other services. Cherished throughout the Bay Area and the communities in which it serves, it has a legacy of providing patients with optimal care during some of the most vulnerable periods of the human experience.
Recently, the venerable nonprofit announced its new name, By the Bay Health. OAKLAND, Calif., May 7, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Blue Shield of California today announced $300,000 in community investments to nonprofit organizations that advance the health and well-being of youth and communities of color. The funding supports initiatives focused on youth development, social justice, and health equity.
Twelve organizations – six in the San Francisco Bay Area and six in the Inland Empire region of Southern California – will each receive $25,000 for a range of initiatives, including art programs, mentorship, technology training, housing, and social justice activism. ....

Stanford Cancels Over 6,000 Vaccine Appointments Due to Shortage

Stanford Health Care is canceling more than 6,000 coronavirus vaccine appointments in Santa Clara and Alameda Counties because of a vaccine shortage. 
“We learned we would be getting less vaccine than we anticipated so it led us to make a very difficult decision to postpone the first dose appointments,” said Dr. Niraj Sehgal, chief medical officer of Stanford Health Care.

Many of the 6,700 appointments were scheduled for next week at the Arrillaga Center at Stanford and at the South County Cancer Center in San Jose.  ....

One day after federal regulators authorized Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use, senior Biden administration officials warned Sunday that the supply of the new vaccine would be highly uneven for the next month.
In an effort to lower expectations that the authorization of a third Covid vaccine will mean a steady new stream of doses, the officials said that the company will deliver 3.9 million shots this week but none the week after. The officials were speaking in an organized briefing with reporters but refused to be quoted by name. ....

San Diego County Cuts Ties With Healthcare Provider Accused of Vaccinating Ineligible People


“We learned [One Medical] was operating as a pay for membership facility and immediately reported them to the state,” said a spokesperson for San Diego County’s Health and Human Services Department. 
One Medical’s Chief Medical Officer has vehemently denied any wrongdoing when it comes to the provider’s vaccine efforts.
“Any assertions that we broadly and knowingly disregard eligibility guidelines are in direct contradiction to our actual approach to vaccine administration,” a statement from Chief Medical Officer Andrew Diamond, M.D. read in part. “Recent media reporting about One Medical perpetuates dangerous public misconceptions about our COVID-19 vaccine protocols.”  ....
