HOUSTON – If you have an Amazon device in your home, anything from an Alexa to an Echo, you have just seven days to opt out of an experiment that could put your privacy at risk.
Amazon Sidewalk will be a shared network that is supposed to help customer devices work better, both in and around your home, like outside lighting that may be wi-fi enabled. If you lose connectivity your device would just switch to a neighbor’s signal so the service wouldn’t be disrupted. When you turn on a new device, it will ask you if you want to join the Amazon Sidewalk network but all of the Amazon devices you own now will automatically be included on June 8, unless you opt out.

According to News 6 partner KPRC, Amazon Sidewalk will be a shared network that is supposed to help customer devices work better, both in and around your home.

Despite speech increasingly becoming one of the main ways people interact with devices, voice technology remains largely closed off to Africa’s languages, accents, and speech patterns. Case in point: The world’s most popular voice assistants, Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant, still don’t support any African languages. The continent has more than 1,000 languages.
Common Voice, a crowdsourcing project started by the Mozilla Foundation in 2017, has been addressing this by inviting speakers of African languages to donate their voices to a free and publicly available dataset that researchers and developers can use to train voice-enabled apps, products, and services.

Amazon has announced to shut down its standalone Prime Now delivery app, and the two-hour delivery options will now be available on its main app and website.
