New Supermarket Opening In Fairfield County Creates Quite A Buzz Among Local Residents

Read / Add Comments
The rumors are swirling around a construction site in one Fairfield County town with locals wondering what grocery store is moving to the area.
But mum seems to the word from Brookfield town officials who won't comment on what store is moving to the area.
The builders of the store, which is being built on Candlewood Lake Road, had the permit not disclose the name of the store leading many to believe the new shopping venue is an Amazon Fresh.
Why, because Amazon has talked of building a concept store in the state, and because of all secrecy.

The Amazon Fresh concept
To elaborate, this is a new grocery store concept that is trying to create a seamless offline and online experience by bringing Amazon's e-commerce expertise to physical locations. The stores offer free same-day grocery delivery for Amazon Prime members, integration with Alexa to manage shopping lists, and for those who shop in person, the ability to skip checkout lines by using Amazon Dash Cart. All in all, it looks like a standard supermarket with some technology layered on top that could potentially improve the shopping experience for customers.

Amazon Could Become UK's 6th Largest Supermarket
16th April 2021
New consumer research suggests that Amazon could be the 6th largest supermarket in the UK if current shoppers swapped just one grocery shop per month to the online giant.
The new Trends Spring 2021 Report, from intelligence and technology consultancy TWC, examines how Amazon could steal a substantial share of the UK grocery market and predicts that traditional supermarkets may start to lose dominance especially with the younger generation and more affluent shoppers.
It also highlights that the online delivery trend is here to stay and will only get bigger with convenience stores needing to increase their participation in order to combat Amazonâs growth.

Amazon Opens Its Third UK Grocery Store
15th April 2021
Just six weeks after Amazon debuted its new ‘just walk out’ grocery store format in the UK, the online giant has opened a third outlet in London today.
The Amazon Fresh store in White City, one of London’s busiest shopping areas, is similar in size to the first two sites in Ealing and Wembley Park. It features the same cutting-edge sensor and camera technology that allows shoppers to simply place items in their bag and then be automatically billed when they leave.
The stores stock hundreds of new ‘By Amazon’ own label items such as milk and bread, and ‘Our Selection’ premium lines, sourced from UK suppliers. There are also branded products and items that come from Morrisons and Booths, with whom Amazon has pre-existing ties through its online grocery operation.

The convenience sector needs to improve its use of data in order to compete with Amazon, which could be the 6th largest supermarket if current shoppers swapped just one grocery shop per month, new research indicates.
The TWC Trends Spring 2021 Report, from intelligence and technology consultancy TWC, highlights that the online delivery trend is here to stay and will only get bigger with convenience stores needing to increase their participation in order to combat Amazon growth.
Tom Fender, development director at TWC, said, “We believe that although Amazon is discussed a lot as a threat to our channel, the fact that 72% of the population has an account really emphasizes that threat. And now, it is now a double threat with the launch of Amazon Fresh and a triple threat with its investment in Deliveroo.

Amazon opens third 'Just Walk Out' store in London | News
Amazon has opened a new checkout-free Amazon Fresh branded store in White City, London.
It is the e-commerce giant’s third physical store in the UK, following its first in Ealing, and second next to Wembley Stadium, which both opened last month.
The new Shepherd’s Bush store similarly features Amazon’s ‘Just Walk Out’ technology. Customers scan the Amazon app on their phones on arrival, fill their bags with products and leave without any interaction with staff or a self-checkout machine.
Prime membership isn’t required to use the Amazon app and shop in the store.
“Amazon Fresh UK shoppers will find everyday ingredients and essentials on their shopping list, along with ready-made meals to help make dinner tonight easier. Amazon Fresh also sells ‘by Amazon’ products, all specifically created with our UK customers in mind. We offer a wide range of ‘by Amazon’ hot food items freshly prepared in-store and served from a grab-and-go heated cabinet so the food is hot and there is still no need to queue,” the company said in a statement.

Will Brookfield Be the Home to CT's First Amazon Fresh Grocery?

For the last few months, Brookfield's big question is what grocery store is being built at 14 Candlewood Lake Road?
I've tried to reach out to First Selectman Steve Dunn but haven't heard back just yet. According to an article in the Newstimes, Brookfield town officials won't comment about the new construction.
The town is building two new stores, and officials have confirmed that one is a Food Emporium, but no one wants to fess up about the other one. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal from the fall of 2019, Amazon was scouting locations for a new "grocery store concept" in Connecticut.

Can Your Share an Amazon Prime Membership?
The answer gets tricky.
This story comes from partner site DealNews.com.
Though Amazon’s Prime program offers a number of benefits, not everyone can — or wants to — pay for it.
The mega-retailer used to have very relaxed rules about Prime sharing, but Amazon revamped the program in 2015 to focus more on families.
Still, if you’d rather not gift an entire Prime subscription, you can definitely share Prime membership perks. Just know that doing so comes with a few caveats.

Amazon unveils Aplenty, its newest private label food brand
Dive Brief:
Amazon has unveiled Aplenty, a new private label food brand set to eventually include hundreds of products across a variety of center store categories, the retailer said in an email Monday morning.
The brand, which is available online and at Amazon's Fresh grocery stores, launched with items including twice-baked parmesan, garlic and herbs pita chips; slow-baked cornbread crackers; and salted caramel chip mini cookies.
Amazon is expanding its lineup of house brands amid a deepening focus by food retailers on private label products, which promise larger profit margins than items carrying name brands.
Dive Insight:
Amazon's announcement didn't specify when the first Aplenty items hit Amazon's store shelves and website, but the handful of items carrying the name that appear on the company's website carry customer reviews that date back as far as February. The email heralding the new brand also features ratings from shoppers.

Amazon already has several private labels for food, including 'Happy Belly' (milk, spices and vegetables), 'Amazon Kitchen' (ready-made meals) and 'Amazon Fresh' (baked goods). In Britain, the physical Fresh stores also have a separate brand 'By Amazon'.
