Al Duhail SC will aim to tighten their grip on the Group C lead when they play Al Shorta in the 2021 AFC Champions League today.
With challengers Esteghlal FC and Al Ahli Saudi FC facing off in Group C’s other tie with both needing victory, a win for Qatar’s Al Duhail against Al Shorta will take them to 11 points and closer to the automatic slot to the Round of 16.
Esteghlal and Al Ahli Saudi are tied on seven points while Al Shorta are still in search of their first after four defeats. The stats don’t favour Al Shorta going into their penultimate 2021 AFC Champions League tie against the group leaders. ....

Al Duhail made a successful start to their 2021 AFC Champions League (ACL) group stage campaign, easing to a 2-0 win over Al Shorta of Iraq at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah yesterday.
In control for much of the match, the Qatari club went ahead through a Hassam Kadhim own goal nine minutes before half-time before a picturesque Edmilson Junior volley made the points all but safe in the 53rd minute.
The result installs Al Duhail as the early leader in Group C, with only the group winners and three best runners-up to advance to the knockout stage from the West Zone. Al Duhail began in the ascendancy, although it didn’t immediately translate into goalmouth action in a cagey opening period. ....

Qatar s Al Duhail will be looking for a flying start in the group stage of the AFC Champions League when they take on the current Iraqi League winners Al Shorta at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah today.
With only the group winners assured of advancing into the Round of 16, the Sabri Lamouchi-led Qatar football heavyweights will be targeting full points in the opening Group C clash. In a pool that also includes regional giants Esteghlal FC of Iran and Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli, Al Duhail will have to provide their best efforts to book a berth in the next stage and their French tactician said that it is their primary target. ....
