Recommendations to the council on preventing and mitigating domestic abuse and violence against women and girls

Oxford City Council has undertaken an extensive review of the role it plays in preventing and mitigating the effects of domestic abuse against women.
A recently released report by the cross-party Domestic Abuse Review Group (DARG) explores ideas on key issues concerning how the council can contribute towards reducing the impact of domestic abuse when it occurs, but also taking steps to prevent it from happening in the first place.
Commissioned by the council’s Scrutiny Committee, the report is based on a wide range of evidence and extensive engagement with numerous stakeholders. Its conclusions and recommendations have been put before the cabinet, the council’s main decision making body. ....

WASHINGTON: An Indian-American businesswoman, who imports goods and supports widowed women in India, has participated in a round table with Kamala Harris and asked the US Vice President to back a global plastic policy.
Lalitha Chittoor, the owner of Eco All Trading LLC, a small micro business involved in wholesale trading of sustainable products such as stainless steel, bamboo, birch wood attended the round table with Harris in Denver, Colorado on Tuesday along with her daughter.
Harris brought up the administration s climate change efforts and said a policy staffer would follow up with her. Chittoor s business founded in 2019, is women-owned and imports goods from India and supports widowed women in India. ....

Nigeria Confirms 2 New COVID-19 Deaths, 179 Infections
Abuja received 4M doses of Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine, the use of which many European nations have suspended.
Nigeria s health authorities on Wednesday confirmed two new COVID-19-related deaths and 179 new infections over the past day.
Till date, 161,074 cases have been confirmed, 146,072 cases have been discharged and 2,018 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said in its latest update.
Earlier this month, Abuja received 4 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, the use of which has been suspended by several European countries after a small number of people reported blood clots after receiving the jab. ....

'No signal of concern so far': Govt on Oxford Covid vaccine side-effects


There is no signal of concern regarding the use of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in the country, said Dr V K Paul, Member (Health) of the Niti Aayog, on Wednesday amid speculations and subsequent review of possible side-effects of the vaccine.
There are reports on AstraZeneca s vaccine relationship with thrombotic events in people who received the vaccine. But the European Medicines Agency (EMA, Europe s top drug agency) says that it (suspension of the vaccine) is only a precautionary measure, Paul said while addressing the weekly press briefing here.
Paul added, There is no data to believe, as of now, that there is a causal relationship, and part of the assessment is still being done. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that the investigation should go on but they have said categorically that the vaccine scale-up and implementation should not be suspended in general. ....
