The MIT Press and Harvard Law School launch the American Journal of Law and Equality

Three Harvard Law School professors have teamed up with the MIT Press to launch a new journal focused on issues of inequality. The
American Journal of Law and Equality will be led and edited by its founders, Randall L Kennedy, the Michael R. Klein Professor of Law; Martha Minow, the 300th Anniversary University Professor; and Cass R. Sunstein, the Robert Walmsley University Professor.
The new journal is expected to appear once per year and include a diversity of scholarship and views from experts and practitioners from in and outside the legal academy. The first issue, expected this summer, will include essays related to Harvard Professor Michael J. Sandel s recent book, The Tyranny of Merit: What s Become of the Common Good?, which challenges the hubris a meritocracy generates among the winners and the harsh judgement it imposes on those left behind. ....

We’ve seen this disinvestment in the American middle class and at the same time a lack of theories and ideologies of why this is happening. I just recently traveled across the country and talked to all different kinds of Latino people who are searching for answers, and they grab on to what’s available to them. They‘re looking for stories that explain why life is a struggle. ....

Today MIT announced the launch of the interdisciplinary Center for Constructive Communication, which will leverage data-driven analytics to better understand current social and mass media ecosystems and design new tools and communication networks capable of bridging social, cultural, and political divides.
An important aspect of the new center is its commitment to reach beyond academia to work closely with experienced, locally based organizations and trusted influencers in underserved, marginalized communities across the country. These collaborations will be critical for launching pilot programs to evaluate which tools offer the greatest potential to create more trusted communication within our deeply fragmented society. ....
