Aspirus Healthcare Workers Protest "Unfair" Treatment

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. (WAOW) Aspirus healthcare workers demonstrated along a busy street in Wisconsin Rapids Monday.
Not all of them were doctors or nurses. There were nursing assistants, cooks and sanitation workers, saying they feel Aspirus is shortchanging them.
We don t feel we re getting properly paid for being frontline workers, especially during this past year, said Carol Koeshall, a baker and cook at Aspirus.
They say this is because of Aspirus proposals to increase the cost of their healthcare, as well as make cuts to some of their benefits.
We can t afford that. We need to be respected and paid, Koeshall said. ....

INTERNATIONAL Relations lecturer Prof Andy Knight has drawn a comparison between the January 6 insurrection in the US and the July 27, 1990 attempted coup in Trinidad and Tobago.
Speaking at a webinar organised by the Movement for Social Justice titled Coup Attempt? Insurrection and What next for the US? on Wednesday evening, Knight said America has to stop pretending it is somehow exceptional.
“The attempted coup d’etat on January 6 shows that America is not an exceptional country. This notion of exceptionalism is very much on the centre of US foreign policy and gives the impression that these sort of things don’t happen in the US.” ....

Cuomo: Airlines Should Test For COVID-19 Amid UK Strain Worries

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and a special guest.
British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and Delta Airlines have agreed to test passengers on flights bound for New York City for COVID-19, after the discovery of a mutated, more contagious, strain of the virus in the United Kingdom led to a Christmas lockdown of that country. Governor Andrew Cuomo says ultimately, he’d like the U.S. to join 40 other countries that have imposed a complete travel ban on arrivals from Great Britain.
Cuomo is warning that the new strain might already be in the U.S. and could cause another wave of infection. He says he believes it may already have arrived with the several thousand passengers a day that have continued to fly between Heathrow airport and JFK and La Guardia airports in New York City. ....

Gov. Cuomo Says All Airline Passengers Bound for NY Should be Tested for COVID-19

Capital Correspondent Karen Dewitt has the latest.
All three airlines that fly from the UK to New York have now agreed to test passengers for the virus before they board the planes.
But Cuomo eased off on his call to halt planes from Great Britain to New York City, after he says he heard the federal government’s infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci say that he thinks a travel ban is premature.  Fauci, who spoke on the PBS Newshour,  did say that he, like Cuomo, suspects the mutated form of the virus might already be present in the U.S. ....
