Mother’s Day arrives Sunday, May 9, and there is no shortage of ways to spend quality time with family in honor of the occasion.
Local venues in San Francisco and beyond are preparing parklets and newly constructed performance areas to celebrate the season, as vaccination rates spark a slight relaxation of public health guidelines. Examples include District Six, a SOMA StrEat Food Park-curated outdoor food truck and entertainment area in the city, and Out Front at the UC Theatre in Berkeley, which features a street bar, casual outdoor dining and live music from 6:30-10 p.m., Thursdays-Saturdays. The month of March is typically dedicated to honoring mighty women and shining a light on the impactful ways they have brought change and contributed to the improvement of equal rights through the ages.
Women’s History Month is celebrated across the U.S. and around the world and corresponds with International Women’s Day (March 8). Bay Area organizations plan to recognize the celebration with a variety of virtual performances, activities and lectures aimed at highlighting women’s and girls’ power all month long.
