Submitting a wish list ahead of the State budget, the farmers from Mysuru region want the government to declare the input cost of cultivation as fair and remunerative price in case of sugarcane.
Kurubur Shanthakumar, president, Karnataka Sugarcane Cultivators Association, said here on Friday that the cost of cultivation had escalated but the FAR fixed by the government did not match the actual cost incurred by the farmers. Hence the government should announce measures to benefit the farmers.
He said it was a failure of Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa in not holding a pre-budget meeting with the farmers to discuss issues related to agriculture. The farmers are in dire straits and the feedback from the community would have helped the government conceive policies to bail them out of the crisis. ....

The past week saw 74 adviser roles appointed while 99 adviser roles ceased, which gives a net loss of 25 roles, however the true story is that 33 actual advisers left the industry this week, according to the analysis by HFS Consulting which looks at adviser numbers from the Financial Adviser Register (FAR) run by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).
Colin Williams, HFS’ director, explained this was due to Apogee Financial Planning having appointed the same adviser three times, which most likely was an error, while at the same time BDO appointed three advisers, of which two still had their roles at Godfrey Pembroke. Following this, Evans and Partners appointed three advisers who also held roles at Dixons, its related business. ....

Germany s domestic security agency has placed the far-right AfD under surveillance for posing a threat to democracy, parliamentary sources said Wednesday, dealing a blow to the anti-immigration party in a big election year.
The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) has classified the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party as a suspected case of having ties to right-wing extremism, the sources told AFP.
The decision, made late last week according to a report in Der Spiegel weekly, will allow intelligence agents to shadow the party, tap its communications and possibly use undercover informants. ....

Concern mounted in Greece on Thursday over the failing health of a prominent far-left hitman, whose life is in danger after a long hunger strike in prison.
Dimitris Koufodinas, formerly the top assassin for the defunct November 17 extremist group, was admitted to a hospital in Lamia, central Greece, on Monday in serious condition after refusing food for 48 days.
His wife Angeliki Sotiropoulou told AFP on Thursday that the 63-year-old is currently in critical condition and borderline comatose after refusing force-feeding.
Koufodinas is seeking a transfer from a high-security prison in Domokos, central Greece, to Korydallos prisin in Athens to be near his family. ....
