India unlikely to resume sizable Covid vaccine exports until October: Report

India is unlikely to resume major exports of Covid-19 vaccines until at least October as it diverts shots for domestic use, three government sources said, a longer-than-expected delay set to worsen supply shortages from the global Covax initiative.
The Serum Institute of India (SII), the world s biggest vaccine maker producing the AstraZeneca (AZN.L) vaccine, responded by saying that it hoped to restart deliveries to COVAX and other countries by the end of this year.
We would like to reiterate that we have never exported vaccines at the cost of the people of India and remain committed to do everything we can in the support of the vaccination drive in the country, SII said in a statement. ....

Amid a Singapore Covid-19 strain face-off, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Wednesday, chaired a high-level review meeting that was attended by Health Minister Satyendar Jain and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
While the Delhi government believes there is a new strain originating from Singapore that could lead to a third wave in India, the aspect of “Singapore strain” has been strongly refuted by the Singapore Government. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, too, tweeted that Delhi Chief Minister does not speak for India and that “irresponsible comments” from those who should know better can damage long-standing partnerships. ....

New Delhi: The second India-Nordic Summit, which was scheduled to be held in June 2021, has been postponed since Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi won t be traveling abroad amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Summit was to take place in Denmark and would include all 5 Nordic countries Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland.

India calls on Azerbaijan to pull back forces from the border area with Armenia
India s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA)  on Wednesday said the country is closely following the situation and called upon the transgressing side to pull back forces and cease further provocation, ANI news agency reported.  In an official statement, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said India has always stood for a peaceful resolution of bilateral disputes through political and diplomatic means.
We have been following, with concern, the situation along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. Border incursions through military movements can destabilize the situation and lead to renewed hostilities. We call upon the transgressing side to pull back forces immediately and cease any further provocation, he said. ....
