SACRAMENTO, Calif.
As California s vaccine distribution rolls out, firefighters across the state are receiving their first doses of the coronavirus vaccine. 
Several local fire departments recently began administering their first doses. According to Fire Chief of Sacramento Fire Department Gary Loesch, some in his department started getting their first round of vaccines Thursday morning.
Myself and a couple other members of Sacramento Fire have gotten their first shot today, and that was the Moderna shot, Chief Loesch said in a conversation with ABC10. ....

The Portland City Council unanimously approved a plan Wednesday to pump millions of dollars into affordable housing and economic redevelopment that proponents hope will benefit families displaced from Portland’s historic Black neighborhoods.
Despite some concerns that the measure will fail to fully remedy decades of racist anti-Black policies, the mayor and the city’s four commissioners two of whom are Black said it was a significant step toward righting those wrongs. ....

New City Council to take up controversial urban renewal plan

Some oppose spending $67 million more in North and Northeast Portland until previously displaced residents are compensated.
The new City Council will consider a controversial urban renewal proposal for North and Northeast Portland when it meets for the first time Wednesday.
The Jan. 6 meeting will be the first with new members Mingus Mapp and Carmen Rubio. Mapps defeated Commissioner Chloe Eudaly in the November runoff election and Rubio won the race to succeed Commissioner Amanda Fritz in the May primary election.
Mapps and Rubio will be participating for the first time with the previous council members: Mayor Ted Wheeler, who defeated Sarah Iannarone in the November election; Dan Ryan, who defeated Loretta Smith in an August runoff to fill the remainder of late Commissioner Nick Fish s term; and first-term Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty, who will be up for reelection in 20 ....

Portland officials are considering pumping millions of dollars into affordable housing and economic redevelopment that could benefit families displaced from Portland’s historic Black neighborhoods.
A wide array of Black community leaders crafted the proposed $67 million initiative, which would build 40 to 50 new single-family homes to own and at least 100 apartments to rent.
People whose families were pushed out of the historic North and Northeast Portland Albina neighborhood would have first rights to live there. ....
