We don’t know about you, but 2020 has left us exhausted. The year has been filled with immense loss, sadness and enough chaos to fill a decade’s worth of newspapers.
The year was dominated by a global pandemic, which infected 77 million people and took the lives of more than 1.6 million worldwide; nationwide Black Lives Matter protests, sparked by the brutal murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and far too many Black men and women at the hands of police; and a presidential election that saw President Donald Trump do everything in his power to elevate white supremacy and discredit the will of the people as record numbers turned out to vote. ....

Rise Up Reno's Youth Empowerment Summit 2021 registration now open

Students 5-8th grade are invited to attend this year s virtual Youth Empowerment Summit, starting at 11 a.m. Jan. 18, hosted by Rise Up Reno.
Every year on Martin Luther King day, we have a summit just for 5th through 8th-grade students all over the state. This is a day to empower students to become future leaders, make great choices, and have fun.
This year instead of a full-day event, Rise Up Reno will host a shorter Zoom session which will allow attendance of even the busiest students. Speaker Dustin Galyon will deliver a keynote to inspire leadership, encourage decision-making skills, and entertain the group with his charismatic energy. Anthony Spiratos doesn t want to run a food delivery business he wants to start a movement.
The Aquidneck Island native said he launched No Contact Valet during the pandemic to help out struggling restaurants, as well as out-of-work industry professionals.
At the start of this pandemic back in March, I was driving down Broadway and Thames [in Newport] and would see a lot of restaurants were closed, and I couldn’t figure out why they weren’t doing delivery, said Spiratos. When I started to look into it, I saw an alarming trend they can’t afford to go with the big [food delivery] apps who charge 15% commissions and up, charging customers, often inflating menu costs. I said we can be better than this. ....
