“They need someone to reach in, because it’s hard for them to be able to reach out,” Shore said.
Through therapy and positive coping techniques, that family now has a path to recovery. Shore feels momentary relief, but also a lingering sadness. ....

Tennessee transgender athlete bill echoes nationwide push

There is no evidence of transgender girls dominating girls’ sports, nor denying opportunities to their teammates, said Eliza Byard, executive director of GLSEN. In reality, transgender students still face discrimination, harassment and barriers to opportunities that their cisgender peers access, such as athletic scholarships.
Among more than 800 member schools of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association the largest organization of its kind in the state none has filed a complaint over transgender athletes participation in sports, said the association s general counsel Rick Colbert. It is unclear if any transgender student athletes are competing in Tennessee.
