Randy Newman | Roll With The Punches: The Studio Albums (1979-2017) / 05 July 2021 72 Views
Since receiving his first nod in 1982, Randy Newman has earned an astonishing 22 Oscar nominations for film music. The same period saw him release just six albums as a singer-songwriter, a humble tally suggesting soundtracks and scores have long taken over as his primary day job. This package stretches a little further back to include 1979’s Born Again, making a total of seven long-players over 40 years. Curiously, it picks up the story immediately after his biggest success as a performer (only 1977’s Little Criminals breached the US Top 10, to bring him a gold disc), and consequently opens on a low note, an overtly cynical set of songs lacking much of the humour or satire of its predecessors.
The Howlers by Rob Blackham
Pre-pandemic, London three-piece The Howlers were making steady inroads with their garage/post-punk rock, with the gigs gradually increasing in capacity and their steady run of singles starting to garner attention from the likes of Steve Lamacq.
Worldwide events acted to curtail any further progress, but that was insignificant compared to their personal situations.
“We all suspected we had it (COVID-19) at the beginning,” frontman Adam Young tells Live4ever. “Cam (drummer) definitely did. We were just keeping each other going. For the first time Gus (bass) opened up about his mental health, while me and Cam openly struggle with ours.”

Tony Blair s former spin doctor Campbell made the gaffe this morning while interviewing former England footballer Vinnie Jones about his new memoir, Lost Without You.
It remembers his late wife Tanya Jones who tragically passed away in July 2019 following a six-year battle with cancer.
Campbell - who is co-hosting the show as a guest with Susanna Reid - said: We ve been talking a lot about Prince Philip after the death of the Queen. One of the phrases that kept being used was something she said after 9/11, the statement that we had to take to New York.
