White House names ex-Obama official Beaudreau as Interior No.2

(Reuters) - The White House on Wednesday nominated attorney Tommy Beaudreau, who oversaw energy development programs at the Interior department during the Obama administration, as the agency’s second in command.
Beaudreau will return as deputy to Secretary Deb Haaland after serving nearly seven years there under former President Barack Obama, becoming the first person to lead the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, which oversees offshore oil and gas activity.
He later served as chief of staff to Interior Secretary Sally Jewell.
The Biden administration is in the midst of a formal review of its oil and gas leasing program to weigh taxpayer value against environmental costs. ....

More than 2,000 protesters arrested during 3 days of violence: Interior Ministry

The Ministry of Interior on Wednesday released a detailed report related to the arrests police made from across the country following the three-day protest staged by a religious party.
It should be recalled that the countrywide protests had turned violent, leading to the death of three people, including two police personnel, while more than 100 policemen had been left injured.
As per the report, more than 2,135 people have been arrested in connection to the violent protests and cases have been registered under the country s anti-terrorism laws for creating chaos, clashing with the police, vandalising public and private property, and resorting to violence. ....
