Two Livonia women reflect on being among first female Eagle Scouts

It's not really surprising that Anna Jackman and Julia Gershon are Eagle Scouts. At first glance, they both come off as thoughtful, well-spoken, over-achieving teenagers who aren't afraid of a little hard work.
When the Boy Scouts of America started allowing female troops in 2019, it's also no surprise Jackman and Gershon were among the first to raise their hands. Now, the two Livonia residents are among the first female Michiganders to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
“Being one of the first is more of a path for others than, like, a path for me," Jackman said.
Jackman, of Troop 1841, and Gershon, of Troop 6695, earned the rank in December. Both said it was the outdoor elements of scouting that drew them to the program.

Churchyard honey; a 'bee-utiful' collaboration that's helping the community

LONDON, ONT. --
As Peter Andersen walks through the backyard of St. Aidan's Anglican Church in London, you can hear the excitement in his voice as he speaks about his newfound beekeeping hobby.
"In these hives right now, there’s probably about 5000 bees. They’ll be surrounding their queen and keeping her warm during the winter time."
Andersen and a friend from the congregation started keeping bees on church property six years ago – to prevent the continuing decline of the honeybee. Every year since, they have had a reasonable harvest of honey.
Along with his wife, Andersen began jarring and selling within the community, with the proceeds going back into the work of beekeeping.
