Booker announces exploratory committee for 2022 U.S. Senate race

Hopkinsville, KY, USA / WHOP 1230 AM | News Radio
Apr 12, 2021 7:02 AM
Charles Booker, the Louisville Democrat who nearly won the nomination to face Mitch McConnell last year, has announced he’s forming an exploratory committee for a potential 2022 run for the nomination to face U.S. Senator Rand Paul.
He made the announcement in a two-and-a-half-minute video on Twitter Monday morning.
Booker lost the primary last year to Amy McGrath and was likely hurt by record absentee voting due to the pandemic that had many Democrats sending in their ballots before he gained momentum.
He formerly represented a portion of Jefferson County in the state House.

Calm weather expected for next couple weeks

Hopkinsville, KY, USA / WHOP 1230 AM | News Radio
Apr 12, 2021 9:56 AM
Western Kentucky is in for a couple of weeks of relatively calm weather, but that certainly does not mean spring severe weather season is over.
Rick Shanklin is the warning coordination meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Paducah and appeared Monday morning on WHOP. He says there doesn’t appear to be any major storm systems in the forecast for the next couple weeks.
He says there are indications the weather pattern could become more active toward the end of April.
The most important thing to remember during severe weather season or any other month is to have multiple ways to receive a warning when one is issued.

Will criminal charges be filed this week against Britt Reid? He’s the former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach involved in a crash that left a 5 year-old girl in a coma.
That was over two months ago.
Now the Kansas City Police Department says it has completed its investigation and handed the case to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.
An early police report claimed Reid confessed to having “two or three drinks” before leaving the Arrowhead Stadium complex and was taking the prescription drug Adderall.

Wednesday is the Tuscaloosa NAACP Blood Drive

Last month we gave you a heads up that the Tuscaloosa branch of the NAACP would be hosting a blood drive in April. The blood drive is in partnership with the American Red Cross. It will take place on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at the McDonald Hughes Community Center. It all kicks off at 9 am.
You can help someone just by donating blood. According to the American Red Cross, “every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer.”

I know first-hand that blood donations are vital because of my father. What I found out during his journey is that there is no substitute for blood. That is why the work of community organizations and outlets like the American Red Cross is important to all Alabamians. My family also found out through American Red Cross that “every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood.”
