Age eligibility for provincial benefit program supporting vulnerable youth being cut from 24 to 22 this year

The maximum age to qualify for the Support and Financial Assistance Agreements (SFAA) program is dropping from 24 to 22 and will impact about 450 people who will now age out of the program. More than 2,100 vulnerable young Albertans over 18 who were in government care currently receive benefits in the form of financial help for rent, groceries and health benefits.

The proposal to change the eligibility was first brought up by the UCP government in November 2019, but this was stalled by a successful injunction that was overturned by the Alberta Court of Appeal in January. The province then delayed implementation until further notice throughout the pandemic and confirmed Tuesday the eligibility changes are moving forward this year, but didn’t ....

Today, the International Energy Agency (IEA) released a special report, “Net Zero in 2050: A roadmap for the global energy system,” that represents the agency’s first ever effort to model a comprehensive energy pathway towards limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (°C). While concerns remain over some of the IEA’s modelling choices, campaigners are welcoming the report as a milestone towards IEA reform.
Through the #FixTheWEO campaign, climate advocates, investors, businesses, and diplomats have been urging the IEA for years to align its influential annual World Energy Outlook (WEO) with the full ambition of the Paris Agreement goals. UCLA Health wins $750,000 grant to scale COVID-19 innovations and support health equity
UCLA Health has received a $750,000 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to scale healthcare innovations for COVID-19 response and recovery and to support health equity through BioFutures, a new LA County workforce development program for diversity in the biosciences.
The grant is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce s $29 million Scaling Pandemic Resilience Through Innovation and Technology (SPRINT) Challenge.
At $750,000, it is the largest-possible single award, with amounts ranging from $200,000 to $750,000. In its announcement, the EDA said the challenge was launched to harness America s entrepreneurial potential to address the economic, health, and safety risks caused by the coronavirus pandemic through entrepreneurship and innovation. ....
