UNSC Resolutions and Indian Backtrack

Daily Times
August 4, 2021
India has been defying the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolutions for decades by not holding a plebiscite in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, giving the Kashmiris their birth right of self-determination so as to decide their future themselves. On August 5, 2019, India’s Modi Government went many steps ahead resorting to mockery of the unimplemented UNSC Resolutions by revoking Article 370 of the India Constitution, white-washing the special status of the occupied territory, turning it into an integral part of Indian Union, despite the fact it was an internationally, more importantly UNSC’s, declared disputed territory between the two neighbouring states that are Pakistan and India. ....

Kashmir & the role of the United States, United Kingdom and Pakistan

Daily Times
March 22, 2021
The Prime Minister of Pakistan has asked India to take the first step and create an enabling environment for moving forward on Kashmir. Pakistan army chief General Bajwa in his keynote address at the first Security Dialogue held in Islamabad has invited India “to bury the past and move forward”. There is no other way forward. The Roman deity Janus may have an issue with this earnest desire to “bury the past”. There are inseparable attendant issues rooted in the past. The two Janusian faces are ordained to look into the backlog of the past and plan the future. ....

WASHINGTON
The Kashmir question is one of the oldest unresolved international problems in the world. The experience of nearly seven decades has shown that it will not go away and that an effort is urgently required to resolve it on a durable basis. Durable in this context is synonymous with equitable. It is imperative, whatever be the rights and wrongs in the equation as far as arguments go, real populations with a pronounced sense of identity of their own, with their suffering and their aspirations, rather than just legal title and merit are involved. ....

India not fit for permanent UNSC member: Chinese scholar

National
March 12, 2021
BEIJING: India dreaming to become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) but it is wantonly violating its resolutions, so it has no qualification to be a permanent member of the UNSC.
These views were expressed by Cheng Xizhong, Visiting Professor at Southwest University of Political Science and Law and Chinese diplomat in South Asian countries in a statement here Thursday. He said Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed area between India and Pakistan, which is determined by the UN Resolution of August 13, 1948, the resolution of the UN Commission for India and Pakistan of January 5, 1949, the Simla Agreement of July 2, 1972 and other documents accepted by India and Pakistan. ....
