The Biden administration is looking at deepening its military and technical cooperation with India by not only providing it with arms and equipment, but also helping New Delhi develop its own defense industrial base, a senior Pentagon official told lawmakers here on Wednesday.

Brown looks to accelerate while changing Air Force culture

Air Force Chief of Staff
Gen. Charles Q. Brown, Jr. rarely disguises his intentions or pulls punches. He wants to go fast. He wants Airmen to succeed and feel enriched. He wants the best and most unvarnished information. Most of all, he wants to win.
Which is why, one day early in his tenure, he arrived at a Pentagon conference room and rather than taking a seat at the head of the table as is custom, he picked a seat on the side.
“At first it confused the heck out of people,” Brown said recently in a wide-ranging interview to discuss his approach to the job, his methods and expectations. He also discussed the progress so far meeting requirements of “ ....

US military conducted fewer FONOPs in FY 2020

US military challenged fewer maritime claims with FONOPs in FY 2020
March 10
The U.S. warship John S. McCain conducted a freedom of navigation operation, or FONOP, near the contested Spratly Islands in the South China Sea on Dec. 22, 2020. (Navy)
The U.S. military used freedom of navigation operations, or FONOPs, to challenge 28 excessive maritime claims by 19 nations worldwide in fiscal 2020, the Pentagon said Wednesday.
That marks a reduction from fiscal 2019, when U.S. forces challenged 36 maritime claims by 22 countries, according to Defense Department data.
The Pentagon does not make public precisely how many FONOPs are undertaken in a given year, though most are conducted by U.S. Navy ships to challenge claims on waters that are international by law. ....

Colin Kahl, Pentagon nominee, under fire for Twitter posts

During the hearing, GOP members grilled Mr. Kahl over his tweets accusing Republicans of being part of “ethnic cleansing,” criticizing last year’s drone strike that killed Iranian Quds Force leader Gen.
Qassem Soleimani, and backing the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, which critics say provides Tehran with a pathway to nuclear-tipped missiles.
“Unfortunately, in the past in many cases, your public policy positions have been couched in partisan politics rather than fact-based analysis,” said Sen.
James Inhofe of Oklahoma, the ranking Republican on the committee.
Mr. Inhofe was especially critical of Mr. Kahl after the contents of a phone call he had with the nominee leaked and falsely claimed he had “flipped” into backing Mr. Kahl‘s confirmation. ....
