MACOMB COUNTY Macomb County residents can expect a major infrastructure project to begin this summer, though they aren’t expected to see increases on their bills.
The Macomb County Public Works Office announced April 15 that the rehabilitation of a section of the Macomb Interceptor sewer, which carries sewage flushed by more than 600,000 people in 11 county communities, will take place at the intersection of 15 Mile and Garfield roads.
Dubbed the “Segment 6” rehab project, this venture will involve lining approximately 2,100 feet of the current 5-foot diameter piping along 15 Mile, east of Garfield. ....

(WXYZ) — The use of disposable wipes appears to be increasing during the pandemic, the Macomb County Public Works Commission says.
Officials say disposable wipes lead to costly damage to sewer pipes and pump stations serving both Macomb and Oakland counties.
MCPW Commissioner Candice S. Miller and Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash says wipes should never be flushed, even if labeling on packages indicate they are flushable.
“In early 2018, approximately 70 tons of debris that had accumulated over a period of three years was removed from the Northeast Sewage Pumping Station in Detroit. Three years later, a crew that recently completed a cleaning removed approximately 270 tons of debris,” Miller said. “That’s a huge – and troubling incr ....

People s use of disposable wipes has increased during the pandemic, and that s creating a mess for Macomb and Oakland County s sewer systems.

Disposable wipes ending up in sewer pipes and pump stations have continually been a problem for the Metro Detroit area, with trash accumulating to the point that expensive removals of debris.
But the debris piling up is getting larger and the removals are getting more expensive, Macomb County s public works commissioner said. ....

A construction contractor works approximately 35 feet below the surface while continuing to dig a shaft in order to reach the Macomb Interceptor sewer at a depth of 65 feet, along 15 Mile Road, west of Schoenherr Road, in Sterling Heights.
