MACOMB COUNTY More work on part of a 15 Mile Road sewer interceptor is in the pipeline, but county officials are pleased with progress and say it will eventually help prevent sinkholes or other disasters from occurring in the Sterling Heights area.
The Macomb County Public Works Office announced June 14 that it had recently managed to wrap up a key portion of a $28 million project. That work involved, since last fall, digging an estimated 60-foot-deep shaft to do sewer work near 15 Mile Road and the ITC Corridor ....

MACOMB COUNTY Macomb County residents can expect a major infrastructure project to begin this summer, though they aren’t expected to see increases on their bills.
The Macomb County Public Works Office announced April 15 that the rehabilitation of a section of the Macomb Interceptor sewer, which carries sewage flushed by more than 600,000 people in 11 county communities, will take place at the intersection of 15 Mile and Garfield roads.
Dubbed the “Segment 6” rehab project, this venture will involve lining approximately 2,100 feet of the current 5-foot diameter piping along 15 Mile, east of Garfield. ....

A construction contractor works approximately 35 feet below the surface while continuing to dig a shaft in order to reach the Macomb Interceptor sewer at a depth of 65 feet, along 15 Mile Road, west of Schoenherr Road, in Sterling Heights. At four-year sinkhole anniversary, Macomb County starts project to prevent another disaster

It was Christmas Eve 2016, and Candice Miller was just days away from taking office after winning the race for Macomb County s public works commissioner, when a section of the interceptor sewer pipe collapsed on 15 Mile Road – causing a sinkhole the size of a football field.
The interceptor is a massive sewer line that that carries the waste flushed by more than 500,000 people from nearly a dozen communities in Macomb County to Detroit s wastewater treatment plant.
First responders and construction crews rushed to the scene, evacuating people from three homes, two of which had to later be demolished. Engineers quickly jury-rigged a sewer line bypass to ensure that sewage did not flow into the Clinton River, or back up into the basements of countless homes in the county. ....
