MACOMB COUNTY More work on part of a 15 Mile Road sewer interceptor is in the pipeline, but county officials are pleased with progress and say it will eventually help prevent sinkholes or other disasters from occurring in the Sterling Heights area.
The Macomb County Public Works Office announced June 14 that it had recently managed to wrap up a key portion of a $28 million project. That work involved, since last fall, digging an estimated 60-foot-deep shaft to do sewer work near 15 Mile Road and the ITC Corridor ....

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – A top priority for fixing Macomb County’s infrastructure is happening below the surface.
The $28 million Macomb Interceptor rehabilitation project includes installing a giant pipe along 15 Mile Road in Sterling Heights to prevent disasters such as the Fraser sinkhole that opened in late 2016.
Candice Miller, Macomb County public works commissioner, said the sinkhole of Christmas Eve 2016 in Fraser cannot happen again but almost did when she got cameras into miles of old sewer lines. ....

MACOMB COUNTY Macomb County residents can expect a major infrastructure project to begin this summer, though they aren’t expected to see increases on their bills.
The Macomb County Public Works Office announced April 15 that the rehabilitation of a section of the Macomb Interceptor sewer, which carries sewage flushed by more than 600,000 people in 11 county communities, will take place at the intersection of 15 Mile and Garfield roads.
Dubbed the “Segment 6” rehab project, this venture will involve lining approximately 2,100 feet of the current 5-foot diameter piping along 15 Mile, east of Garfield. ....

STERLING HEIGHTS Four years after a Macomb County sewer collapsed and created a large sinkhole in Fraser, new work is beginning in the Sterling Heights area to make sure that such an event doesn’t recur.
In December, the Macomb County Public Works Office announced that a contractor is working on a $28 million sewer project related to the Macomb Interceptor sewer. The current work is located in Sterling Heights’ portion of the ITC Corridor, west of Schoenherr Road.
According to the county, the MIDD Interceptor flushes away the waste of over 500,000 county residents from Sterling Heights, Chesterfield Township, Clinton Township, Fraser, Harrison Township, Lenox Township, Macomb Township, New Haven, Shelby Township, Utica and Washington Township. ....

Major sewer project underway on anniversary of Christmas Eve sinkhole

A construction contractor works approximately 35 feet below the surface while continuing to dig a shaft in order to reach the Macomb Interceptor sewer at a depth of 65 feet, along 15 Mile Road, west of Schoenherr Road, in Sterling Heights.
