BELGRADE) - The Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), founded by the late Slobodan Milosevic, is backing Serbia s bid for European Union membership, party leader Ivica Dacic said Saturday, in a break with previous policy.
The socialists have made a radical cut with the past, and set as their priorities preservation of national interest, joining (the) European Union, (the) fight against crime and corruption and social justice, Tanjug news agency quoted Dacic as saying in opening address to the party congress.
The Milosevic-led SPS was the ruling party during the bloody break up of the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s. Dacic took over following Milosevic s ouster in late 2000. ....
