WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is expected to unveil sanctions on Russia as soon as next week over its alleged meddling in the 2020 U.S. presidential election, CNN reported on Tuesday.
Iran will also likely face sanctions, CNN reported, citing anonymous U.S. officials.
U.S. intelligence officials said in a report released on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin knew of and likely directed a Russian effort to manipulate the U.S. presidential campaign to benefit former President Donald Trump with “misleading or unsubstantiated allegations” against challenger Joe Biden. ....

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House said on Wednesday that Russia will be held accountable after a U.S. intelligence report bolstered longstanding allegations that Russia sought to interfere in the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the Democratic administration of President Joe Biden is taking a different approach to relations with Russia than former Republican President Donald Trump.
“Certainly the Russians will be held accountable for the action they’ve taken,” she told reporters. ....

BRASILIA, March 17 (Reuters) - New coronavirus cases are picking up again in half of the countries in the Americas, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) said on Wednesday, calling on Brazil to protect its people in the face of record infections and deaths.
Brazil is now reporting the highest number of new infections in the region, PAHO director Carissa Etienne said. Several areas of Brazil are witnessing record-high infections, and hospital beds are nearly at capacity across more than half of Brazilian states.
Brazil on Tuesday reported a record 2,841 deaths in 24 hours, as the incoming health minister pledged to continue the controversial policies of far-right President Jair Bolsonaro, who has downplayed the severity of the disease. ....
