This remote tribe worships Prince Philip as a God - what will they do now?


Karl Pilkington, the somewhat unwitting star of
An Idiot Abroad, has previously shown wisdom that belies his travelling title. When he went to visit the Kastom people on the Southern Island of Tanna, Vanuatu, the TV presenter was encouraged to observe a remote tribe as they paid tribute to their God – who just so happened to be the late Prince Philip.
Pushed for a humorous reaction, Pilkington instead plucked a moment of poignance from the air. Rather than mock the tribespeople, he made one of the more salient points you’re ever likely to hear:
“It is weird. But. At least he exists. Some people worship Gods they can’t see, and don’t know where they are. In fact, many religious people certainly don’t have a postcode for their God. But the Kastoms? They have. They can write him a letter.” ....
