Mile Square Regional Park in Fountain Valley will soon lose one of its three golf courses, but is set to gain 93 acres of recreation space.
The Orange County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted unanimously to certify the final environmental impact report for the project, which would repurpose land in the middle of the 640-acre park. ....

What wasn t even a state-recognized holiday, just one year ago, seems like it will suddenly be celebrated as the newest federal holiday when it rolls around again this Saturday.
Juneteenth June 19 was unanimously voted a federal holiday by the Senate yesterday. The measure to pass a Juneteenth National Independence Day passed the house by a large margin today. President Joe Biden will need to sign the bill for it to become law.
And that puts New Jersey, which made Juneteenth a state observance on Sept. 10, and New York, which made Juneteenth a state holiday on Oct. 14, ahead of the curve. And it leaves Randy Glover, producer of Bergen County s Juneteenth Celebration in Overpeck Park Saturday from noon to 6 p.m., feeling good about himself, his colleagues, and the county. ....

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee County Parks forestry crews have been busy planting trees in the 73-acre park, much to the delight of Bay View residents and park visitors.
According to a press release, beginning in early April, crews began planting River birch, Elm, Maple, Ironwood, Basswood, Chestnut, and London Planetrees around the lagoon in the center of the park, near the Lilypond near E. Oklahoma Avenue, and on the hillside along S. Logan Avenue.
We were expecting a dozen trees would be planted this spring, but the county upped that to 22, said Mike Bubolz, president of Humboldt Park Friends (HPF), a nonprofit volunteer group working to improve the park. There will be another 20 to 25 hardwoods planted this autumn, with more scheduled for next year. ....

SOU students asking for input from the community on Greenway improvements

JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. The public has until February 15th to weigh in on potential improvements to the Bear Creek Greenway.
A group of students in the school of business at Southern Oregon University sent out a survey to the community.
They’re looking for responses to questions about the Greenway including how safe they feel on it, how often they use it, why they use it and what they would like to see changed or upgraded.
The County Parks Department said it conducts surveys regularly, but this one is important as it’s part of the Greenway’s recovery after damage from the Almeda Fire. ....

It will be downhill from here for Brookhaven Bicycle Inc.âs expansion into eastern Long Island following the approval of an agreement allowing the not-for-profit organization use of two Suffolk County facilities within Robert Cushman Murphy .
Under terms of the agreement negotiated between Brookhaven Bicycle Inc. and the County, the organization will use the Raymond P. Corwin Pine Barrens Trail Center and former Methodist Church of Manorville building within Robert Cushman Murphy County Park to operate a bicycle repair facility and bicycle distribution center for people in need of transportation as well as offering bicycle educational programs to public. ....
