WALLINGFORD, Conn. They call themselves the “COVID Crusaders”, a team of doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists from Gaylord Hospital who decided to add some more obstacles to their already overburdened workload. 
After enduring almost a year and a half of tirelessly fighting for their patients against the grips of COVID-19, the 37 staffers at Gaylord Hospital decided to enter the Gaylord Gauntlet – a 5k “tough mudder” race that happens every year outside the sprawling hospital grounds.  ....

WOLCOTT – John (Jack) Ahearn Sr., 81,
of Wolcott, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Gaylord Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Evelyn Bisaillon Ahearn for 55 years.
Jack was born Dec. 29, 1939 in Waterbury, the son of Margaret Byrne Ahearn and Charles Ahearn; he was a graduate of Wilby High School, a member of Bristol Fish & Game, and a valued member of the Knights of Columbus.
Jack was a machinist at Pratt & Whitney for more than 40 years, contributing to their processes in ways that would become patented in the late 1960s. Jack achieved congressional and state legislative recognition for the integral role he played in founding the Wolcott Volunteer Ambulance Association in 1973, where he served selflessly and tirelessly as captain throughout his working years. ....

BETHWOOD, CT The U.S. has reached what health officials have called a complicated stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, with cases and hospitalizations increasing in some parts of the country despite the quickening pace of vaccination.
Nationally, the seven-day average of new cases, which had fallen steadily from its peak of nearly 250,000 in January, is rising again, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. Over the week ending April 14, new cases averaged 69,577 8.1 percent higher than during the previous week, when the seven-day average stood at 64,340. More than 31.2 million cases of COVID-19 have been reported since the pandemic began. ....
